Bowing Techniques

  1. Legato vs. Staccato (Twinkles)

  • Legato is a smooth, connected stroke
  • Staccato is a short stroke using small bows with space between each note.
  1. Martele: the snail rocket stroke (Allegro)

Martele is a fast whole bow stroke with space between each note.  Similar to staccato but stronger and uses the whole bow. Hulk version of staccato.

  1. Accents: bite and release stroke (Allegretto & Andantino)

Slow stroke with bite at the beginning. Make the bow “bite” the string and then release it.
